Applying for Grid Access

Below are the necessary steps you need to take to apply for grid access. If you have questions regarding this process, feel free to contact us.

1. Navigate to the UCR Grid Portal - http://grid.ucr.edu

2. Find the Login Box in the right hand column. Click on "Apply for Grid Access", at the bottom of that box.


3. Read the instructions on the application page; when you are done, select your campus from the drop down menu (UCR is selected by default) and click the "Select" button.

4. UCR Users - log in with your NetID and password. This verifies that you are affiliated with UC Riverside and are eligible for a grid ID.

5. After authenticating, you may have to wait several seconds for the system to process your information. Once it is complete, you will be taken to the Grid Access Application.

  • You must fill out this form completely to obtain grid access. When finished, click the submit button.

  • If you have a login ID on a specific cluster, you may select it on this screen to gain access to it via the portal. If you do not have an account on a specific cluster, you may apply for access on the UCR Collaborative Cluster.

  • For example, Clark Kent, a UCR researcher, is investigating the interactions amongst amino acids. He does not have access to any cluster, so he will select the UCR Collaborative Cluster. He will have a 2 GigaByte disk quota and be able to submit jobs to 40 shared nodes.


6. Your application will now be processed, and an account created for you on the UCR Collaborative Cluster. Once your account is ready, an email will be sent to the address you provided.

7. Once you receive your confirmation email, You may log in to the UCR Grid Portal
